ESAT  NEWS May 28, 2013

Six people were injured when a grenade exploded in Sora Cafeteria, Gundomeskel city, Dera Woreda of Northern Shewa, Ethiopia. Sources in the town told ESAT that three of the victims have been critically injured and are being treated in Fiche Hospital while another one is receiving treatment in a local health center. One of the injured is a policeman; another is a businessman while the other two are farmers.

Mesfin, the Head of the Wordea Security, said the cause of the explosion was personal disagreement between those involved.

Meanwhile, after ESAT reported few months ago that an official of the same Woreda had forced his wife to perform humiliating acts on her husband’s genitals and had also mischarged after being beaten by the butt of a riffle, government owned media have recently travelled to the area and also reported the incident by speaking with the victim. ESAT has learnt that the residents of the area and the victim had explained in detail what happened to the government journalists. However, the journalists that have been sent to the location under the order of the Minister of Government Communications, Bereket Simon, have not revealed their reports so far.

The Security Head of the Woreda said that all the evidences on the suspect have been gathered and they are waiting for the court’s verdict. The Head said the suspect committed the acts due to personal reasons. The suspect committed the acts after refusing to hand over his weapon. The victim has been in hospital and is currently said to be in a stable condition.
