Hailemariam warns opposition again

ESAT News  August 28, 2013
Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn has once again warned Ethiopian opposition parties during a speech he made in the government organised conference under the  theme of the promotion of religious culture of tolerance, respect of the constitution and coexistence opened on Tuesday at the African Union Conference Hall in Addis Ababa.
Hailemariam said “if some opposition do not stop supporting the activities of some extremists and terrorists, the government will take measures according to the constitution”.
He warned that his government will take measures on all that make anti peace activities and crushing the activities of“forces of destruction” will also continue.
Addressing the Conference, the new Patriarch of the EthiopianOrthodoxTewahedoChurch, Abune Mathias, said that all anti-peace activities need to be condemned. President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Sheik Kiyar Mohamed, has on his part said the culture of tolerance has to be passed down to generations.
ESAT’s reporter said that the speech of the Prime Minister revealed the government has not regretted its violent actions on Muslim protesters and is even ready to take more forceful actions. He also said that the option of talking to the imprisoned leaders of the “Let our Voice be Heard” Movement or settling it peacefully has not been raised during the Conference.
ESAT’s reporter also said the aim of the conference is to gain support from both religious leaders for the violent actions it took and will take.
Various other government officials and guests spoke during the event.
