Ethiopia’s high profile official, Junedin Sado defects to Kenya
Awramba Times (Addis Ababa) – Junedin Sado, Ethiopia’s high profile official and former Minister of Civil Service has defected.
According to Ethiochanel, a pro-government private newspaper based in Addis Ababa, Junedin Sado is seeking asylum in neighboring Kenya.
Ethiopian authorities have charged Junedin Sado’s wife, Habiba Mohamed, with terrorism for using money from the Saudi Arabian Embassy to pay for Islamic protests against the government.
In the aftermath of Habiba’s arrest, Junedin published a letter on Ethiochannel newspaper defending his wife and criticizing the federal prosecutor’s charges. Last December, Awramba Times has reported about the Ethiopian parliament’s plan to waive the immunity of Junedin Sado.
Since 2001, Jundein Sado has served on various key positions of the government including as president of the Oromia Region , Minister of Transport and Communication and Minister of Civil Service.
